JOB TITLE: Director of Strategic Partnerships
OVERVIEW:
The Director Of Strategic Partnerships provides co-leadership in programmatic oversight, relationship building with key constituents and securing funding from philanthropic and individual donors. They work to support the Executive Director to build and enhance the vision for the future programmatic scope and impact of Cultural Survival. They work to increase philanthropic giving, particularly by expanding the individual giving program and developing the major gift prospect pool. They also seek support from national and international foundations, governmental, and quasi-governmental agencies. They are a key spokesperson for the organization and successfully engage diverse internal and external constituencies.
The Director Of Strategic Partnerships serves as the chief advisor to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors on all matters related to institutional advancement, leading efforts to provide program leaders with significant opportunities to present their work to major donors, corporations, foundations, and community groups. They work to strengthen programs and development across the organization, working collaboratively with the program directors and communications staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic directions:
- Support the Executive Director in the development and implementation of the overall organizational vision and plan.
- Support the Executive Director in strategy development, mapping opportunities for programmatic development and reach.
- Develop and implement a short-term, midterm and long-term fundraising plans.
- Building the major gifts portfolio.
- Oversee all development functions including major gifts, annual giving, foundation, corporate, and government relations, donor recognition and stewardship, special events.
- Meet prospective donors and establish effective communications with them.
- Set goals for the development program with the Executive Director.
- Galvanize Board, senior leadership, and supporters in promoting philanthropy to advance the mission of Cultural Survival.
- Individually and in partnership with the Executive Director and Board members, cultivate, solicit, close and steward major gifts.
Program:
- Provide guidance to Program Managers and staff in program implementation and to support their efforts to secure both restricted and unrestricted funding.
- With the Executive Director and the Deputy Executive Director, create strategies for the expansion of existing programs and the creation of new programs.
- Seek multi-year funding to expand and strengthen current programs.
Organizational Management/Governance:
- Serve as a member of the senior management team.
- Help plan for and organize board meetings, held 2 times a year.
- Staff the Board Fundraising Committee.
- Work collaboratively with IT and other staff to ensure the effective collection and analysis of development-related data.
- Manage and supervise the Development Associate and Communications Managers.
Development and Marketing:
- Set annual fundraising goals and define, analyze and evaluate metrics.
- Provide leadership and direction for the advancement of fundraising among key constituents:
Major Donors:
- Support the effective cultivation and solicitation of major individual donors through research, communication with donors, face-to-face solicitation, and preparation of the Executive Director and the Board of Directors for solicitation meetings.
Individuals:
- Oversee the writing, production, and analysis of all direct mail appeals.
- Ensure the Board of Directors fulfills its annual pledges.
Donor Stewardship:
- Establish and manage a donor stewardship plan that emphasizes timely communication with and the recognition/acknowledgment of major and other donors.
Foundation/Corporate/Government Support:
- Oversee the timely research and preparation of grants or contracts from foundations, corporations and government grants.
- Serve as grants manager, developing and maintaining the annual grants calendar, overseeing fulfillment of grant obligations and timely reporting to funders.
Financial Management:
- Provide revenue projections as part of the budget development process.
- Review year-to-date revenue figures and propose alternative strategies as necessary.
Human Resources/Supervision:
- Serve as a member of the senior management team.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Attend and participate in program, organization-wide and other meetings.
- Act in the best interest of the organization, reflecting the values of teamwork, collaboration and mutual respect.
- Serve as an effective, knowledgeable spokesperson for Cultural Survival
- Perform other duties as needed or directed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The Director is an accomplished, dynamic program and development professional with a proven track record of managing successful programs and securing funds through major gift, foundation, corporate, and government grants and annual fund (memberships/subscriptions). They embrace CS’s mission and are able to effectively communicate it.
Education/Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree is preferred
- Minimum of 5 years experience in programs and professional fundraising
- Demonstrated ability to garner support from individuals and major gift fundraising
- Leadership skills to work with and motivate board members
- A proven track record of developing strong donor relationships and building a comprehensive development program
- Evidence of a successful track record in securing grants
- Passion and experience working on behalf of Indigenous Peoples; in the alternative, experience in a human rights or similar advocacy organization
- Strong planning, communication and project management skills
- High degree of professional demeanor
- Above average verbal and written communication skills
- Goal driven and possesses a high degree of motivation, maturity and energy
