MEXICO: Violence epidemic against women in Chihuahua

Amnesty International issued a statement on August 11 denouncing a series of intolerable crimes that have occurred regularly against women, including members of indigenous communities, in the state of Chihuahua during the last 10 years. According to authorities 70 women remain missing in the state. Other sources, however, place the figure at around 400 women missing since 1993. Investigation by Amnesty International has found that many of these women were abducted, sexually assaulted, tortured, and killed.
