United Nations Human Rights chief Navi Pillay reported recently on the state of human rights in Mexico, after a visit to the mostly Indigenous state of Oaxaca. She noted that among all of the issues facing Indigenous Peoples in Mexico today, one of the main underlying problems regards land, territories, and natural resources. Cultural Survival's February Global Response Campaign in Mexico highlighted a specific example of this problem: the Huichol people's fight to maintain control of their land and resources in the Real de Catorce mountain range, in San Luis Potosí, Mexico.
