Call for Proposals: Funds for Radio Transmitters and/or Primary Equipment

Cultural Survival is an Indigenous non-profit organization that supports Indigenous community radio initiatives in different parts of the world with grants that strengthen the capabilities of these important communication platforms and serve as media for information, opinion, education, culture and languages of Indigenous Peoples from their own philosophies, histories, rights and desires.

  1. Objectives of the call

Purpose this call is to strengthen the work of Indigenous women journalists in the stations where they work, collaborate, direct, participate, and organize. In addition, we aim to strengthen on air efforts that promote the use of their Indigenous mother tongues through the purchase of  transmitters and/or complementary radio equipment.

  1. Who can participate in the call?

Indigenous community radio stations. Groups of women who run radio stations or work with an Indigenous community radio station. 

  1. Budget

For this call the budget is limited to USD 4,000.00 dollars.  

  1. Requirements
  • Based in one of the following countries: Bolivia, Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Panamá, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, México, Colombia, Perú, Ecuador, Nepal, North India, Namibia, Botswana, South África.
  • Be an Indigenous community radio station in training or console.
  • Have active participation of women in decision-making and programming spaces of the station.
  • Commitment from the radio station to continue to promote and open the participation of women.
  • Demonstrated content related to women's issues, for example news bulletin, programs, spots and campaigns related to women's rights.
  • Three letters of recommendation from traditional authorities, community, and grassroots organizations that support and recognize the work of the radio station.
  • Demonstrate the use of mother tongues in the programming and contents of the radio station.
  • Demonstrate the need for a transmitter and complementary equipment.
  • The radio must be a station committed to the development of its community through its programming content.
  1. Conditions

Transmitting equipment is understood as a transmitter and/or complementary equipment to the transmitter (amplifier or exciter, audio processor, compressor, equalizer, low frequency link system, point-to-point links) and FM antennas.

Estimates of the cost of the transmitting equipment specifying technic characteristics must be included in the proposal.

Participating radios should send their programming schedule, website (if they have one), Facebook page, organizational chart and productions that demonstrate the participation of women, include women's issues, and use Indigenous languages.

  1. Deadlines

The deadline to submit proposals is June 17, 2019.

The submitted proposal may be written (format), recorded in a video or audio.

The cases not foreseen in this call will be resolved by the Indigenous Community Media team of Cultural Survival.
