Muchas gracias to everyone who sent letters to the Mexican Senate in response to our appeal at the end of March! Our campaign was a success! After receiving 2,748 international letters in a single week, the Senate approved a “point of agreement,” that:
1) urged the secretary of the economy to exhaustively review the 22 concessions granted to the Canadian mining company First Majestic Silver Corp. in the sacred Huichol territory of Wirikuta and to issue a public report.
2) asked the secretary of the environment and natural resources to publically release the environmental impact study that was carried out for mining in the Real de Catorce desert, including the protected Wirikuta reserve.
