Naköj Community Radio (Maya Kaqchikel)

Radio Comunitaria Naköj is an Indigenous collective and nonprofit media outlet dedicated to disseminating the cultural expressions of the Santo Domingo Xenacoj region. Through the exercise of the right to freedom of expression and thought as an Indigenous Maya Kaqchikel People, the station focuses on social and cultural issues, promoting the strengthening of the Maya Kaqchikel language among the population of Santo Domingo Xenacoj as well as the region’s cultural identity. In line with its original principles and values of democracy and participation, it works for the defense of both the collective and individual rights of Indigenous Peoples.

Their project, "Institutional, Communication, and Cultural Strengthening of Naköj Community Radio of the Maya Kaqchikel People of Santo Domingo Xenacoj," will strengthen the technical capacities of the station's collective via five onsite and three virtual workshops on radio production, journalism, freedom of expression, and the rights of Indigenous Peoples. It will also provide capacity to carry out field work for the production of intercultural bilingual podcasts, the strengthening of collective alliances through a community assembly, and the constitution of a legal association for the representation of Radio Naköj.
