As part of an overall effort to protect and empower Indigenous communities, several initiatives have been undertaken to address critical challenges facing the Asur tribe. These include conducting awareness campaigns against mining and deforestation, advocating for Tribal self-governance, and working to restore ancestral rights to water, forests, and land. In addition, efforts are underway to document the endangered language, culture, and Traditional Knowledge of the Asur and to publish the Tribe's rich oral literature. To further support these efforts, an informal learning center for children in the Asur language has been established, along with the operation of the Asur Adivasi Mobile Radio, which actively promotes awareness of Asur rights and wisdom among the general public.
The project focuses on raising awareness and empowering the Asur community through three key initiatives. First, a two-day Radio Technical Training Workshop will train 20 participants to produce high quality radio programs in the Asur language, establishing an effective team to support the campaign's objectives. Second, a one-day Community Leadership Awareness Conference for 100 participants will engage youth in leadership roles and educate them on the impacts of mining and their constitutional rights, empowering them to protect affected communities. Third, over 10 months, 20 audio episodes in the Asur language will be produced and broadcast 160 times in local markets and online platforms, covering ancestral songs, stories, news, and issues related to mining and Indigenous rights.
