In response to the increasing dangers associated with the long-running civil conflict in Colombia, approximately 380 Kuna Indians from the village of Arquia have formally requested the Kuna General Congress to permit them to transfer their community to Kuna Yala in Panama. The Kuna General Congress has expressed its willingness to take in Kunas displaced by war but the Panamanian national government has not yet commented on the acceptance of Kuna refugees.
